Greening Virginia Universities and Colleges Conference

On February 29 Paul Hinson, Director of Engineering and Bob Fitz, Director of Landscape Architecture at Koontz-Bryant, attended the fifth annual “Greening Virginia Universities and Colleges Conference,” hosted by George Mason University. The event was organized by Virginia Sustainable Building Network. The featured speaker was Senator John Warner, Senior Advisor, Pew Project on National Security, Energy and Climate.

Warner spoke about how the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is leading efforts to deploy alternative fuels, new vehicle technologies and energy-efficiency projects in order to protect service members, save money and reduce risk. The DoD is the federal government’s largest energy consumer. By implementing effective policies and procedures, the department is setting aggressive energy efficiency goals to lessen our dependence on oil and to enhance our nation’s energy security. He related how the DoD technological advancements ultimately make their way into mainstream use. Mr. Warner also described the similarities of energy needs and operations of Colleges and Universities with those of the DoD and other governmental agencies.

Panel discussions were held on:
